Our Guild Members don't just create usable works of art for themselves; nearly all of our Members have stitched at least one Baby Love quilt or a Quilt of Valor (QOV)!
Baby Love Quilts are pieced and quilted by our Members for the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LMRC) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The quilts are distribted to ailing infants and their families during their stay at the NICU.
This is a nationwide program. Catherine Roberts is the Founder and Director of the Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF). The mission of the QOV Foundation is to cover ALL combat wounded service members whether physical or psychological with wartime quilts called Quilts of Valor (QOVs). The wounded service members from the War on Terror or Long War are to be considered first and foremost. The second mission is to teach our children how to sew QOVs. This skill will teach sewing skills in addition to encouraging civic involvement and volunteering for the betterment of our nation. A natural extension of our mission will be to link up with our coalition countries and see that their combat wounded are also covered. QOVs are made by RPQG Members to honor our Wounded Warriors. It is a tangible way for quilters to thanks Service Members for their service, sacrifice and valor to our country. After being pieced and quilted by Guild Members, they are given to Wounded Warriors that are treated at LMRC. The RPQG Chairperson for the QOV Project is Frieda Chevalier. |
